Thriving in Any Economy: Step 1
Whether the economy is improving or not I will leave up to others, but what is important to remember is that regardless of the economic state, companies can thrive with the right framework and mindset.
I often suggest that companies need to return to the fundamentals – the blocking and tackling skills – in order to really achieve excellence. Of course, I often tie sports analogies to my approach to business, but I’m not suggesting we chest bump in the hallways, or slap a sign over the door to the distribution center that says “Work Like a Champion Today” (although I’m not against these ideas either!)
But just like coaches would have players do day in and day out between games is practice. Over the next several days, I’ll post the steps you can take for thriving in today’s economy:
Step 1: Execute the game plan – always.
We often talk about how the right strategy and models are very important to deal with the troubles that come along, and these points are critical. But for the operational leadership, those who live in the trenches, the goal is execution. The championship teams in sports can always point to the execution in the trenches – the offensive and defensive lines or the catcher calling the pitches – and managers should always focus on delivering business results daily.
